Heels or Balls (of your feet)

I was once told you’re either moving forward or backward, or up or down…whichever, but the point is you’re never static…personally, professionally, organizationally.

Attitude is about choice. Progress is about choice.

The other day I heard a good visible analogy for this idea…

In most situations, you have to decide if you’re going to act in one of two ways:

1) Be on the heels of your feet, on the ‘receiving end’, falling back. Or…

2) Be on the balls of your feet, leaning forward.

I like that visual…a tangible reminder that can be used every day to focus on forward-moving behavior.

  1. This is a good image to keep top of mind. As I move forward with my business goals, I find much of what you write valuable input into the approach I need to take, considering all options, tackling problems head on. Thanks for another good post.

  2. Great analogy, Sam. I have had clients in the past (OK, maybe a couple in the present, too!) that could use this advice. Unfortunately, they spend so much time trying to decide which direction to go in that they find themselves FLAT on their feet immobilized!

This reminds me of a quote I heard from our uncle, Pete Wilkinson. He said, “Status quo is disguised decay.” I’ve applied that concept to so many arenas, including spiritual life. It’s so true. I love your blog. 🙂
